It will be a slightly different kind of year as I will not do all WRC rallies this year. Last year was grazy busy, successful but also drained me physically to the limit. This year I will focus more in individual coaching with the drivers also doing rallies with them as normal.
The year started with little different kind if coaching in Lapland. I worked with Land Rover drivers who were participating in the Arctic Rally. First experience in these kind of cars but it was good fun. We started the training by driving with Toyota GR Yaris on the lake tracks and used the whole first day to learn and improve the basics of driving.
The was also a unexpected coaching opportunity at the same time as a young g German driver Claire Schönborn snd her codriver Jara Hain were there to learn the basics of driving in snow and we together decided to do some work there together. We spend good 1.5 days working mainly with pacenotes and driving from them. She has lots of talent and passion. I knew from the first moment that she will come as the winner in Sweden JWRC in the competition to get the full drives package. They both learned alot but there is also lots to learn. Hopefully we can continue to work together in the future.
After these intense 3 days I was teaching a rally3 driver who was also preparing for Arctic rally. It was his second day in the car, we also drove the first fay together. It was great to see how Tuomas managed to understand the basics of a 4wd and drove really nicely. He had a unlucky off in the rally but showed good speed in stage times.
The long week ended with a 3 day session with my Polish drivers Michal and Piotrek Maluszynski. We drove with Fiesta Rally2, Toyota GR Yaris and crosscart. Its a privlidge to work with them both. Michal is driving normally his Mini T1+ but now had the rallycar there and he learned so much over the days. Piotrek was mainly driving with Yaris and crosscart, but the last day we used the rally2. He is an incredible talent. First time driving a rally2 and after 10 laps on the lake it started to feel like he would have done it every day. We ended the training by driving in proper stages and it was good fun. I also had the chance to drive some 50km with the Fiesta and enjoyed every meter of it🙌🏻👍🏻.
Now the season has started and im really looking forward to what ever it brings.
