Gus and Jonas had a good pre-event test and we all were really confident that we could fight for the win in Chile. Based on last years tyrechoices we believed that the choice we took was the best one and when we found out that our strongest competitors took very different approach it just made us more confident. Well we still have not understood how it could have changed so much from last year that the best tyrechoice was now worst and last years worst was best but thats rallying at its best. We were still in the fight in strong position. Gus felt really confident and only a slowpuncture in the last stage ment that he was not overnight leader. We were still very confident about the weekend.
Saturday turned out to be very difficult with very challenging conditions especially in the afternoon. Gus managed to handle the conditions really well and we were fighting for the lead. Olivers puncture started many very strange things which in the end ment that Rossel got an incredible notional time and was in the lead.
Sunday was mainly about surviving through the very challenging conditions. We had some issues with setup but was something that we could not really do anything about, so it was fullsend mode to try and catch Gryazin. Up to 400m from the finish of the last stage it looked like that, but a little bit too greedy line in to a left started a half spin and cost Gus valuable time meaning that he finished the rally in P3. It’s still nice to be back in the podium but we wanted so much more from this rally.
It’s nice to see Gus and Jonas smiling and enjoying rallying again after a difficult few rallies. This form started already in Greece but there a cow destroyed the possibility to get a good result.
Now we have few weeks time to prepare for Central European round and getting back to tarmac. It’s going to be a very difficult rally but we love challenges.
